New Destiny Himalayans has been focusing Kitten photo of GC, RW New Destiny's Something In The Starson producing "Top Quality"Himalayans for just over 10 years. Chocolate is the "ice'n on the cake" for us. I breed for health and type first, than for the color. I have a very small cattery keeping only "the best" for my breeding program... My start in cats was a little different from those of most people getting started. I wanted to show not necessarily breed. I had shown Horses for many years and had several FFA (Future Farmers of America) projects in high school. About 4 years out of high school I had moved into the city and didn't have horses any longer, I was bored and wanted something to do. Remembering my love for animals I know I wanted to show again. There were several factors that led me to cats. One I didn't have the space for horses, and I was allergic to dogs. So cats were the obvious choice. I liked fluffy ones so Persians were the breed I chose. While calling a few adds I noticed an add for "Rare Chocolate". Well I have always liked having something that no one else had so my interests were picked. I purchased my first purebred cat that year (1989), a solid chocolate female. The breeder had told me the kitten was a male, which isn't what I had really wanted but the following day when I took my new kitten to the vet I was told he was a she... Well, I was very happy about this because I didn't want a stinky boy in my home, and the breeder was fine with me keeping the kitten... Hence Montgomery/Monte became Brittany and this was the beginning of my breeding program.

It was a rocky next few years as I found out very quickly that my kitten wasn't a show cat. I only showed her for winners ribbons in CFA and didn't bring her out again. Then I found out that show quality males were not being offered for stud service. I had several offers for stud service but these males were of poor quality and I wanted a show cat...

I found a breeder getting out of Himalayans and going into solid white Persians. They had a very nice cream male cpc availed. I purchased him to show and breed, his name is CH Purrinpaws Totaly Beaudacious. Beau had wonderful type but didn't like to show, he did make finals but I just couldn't see forcing him to endure something that scared him so much.

At the cat show with New Destiny's Something In The StarsBeau & Brittany's first litter didn't produce any show kittens so I placed them all as pets. However the next year in a litter of 5 there was a Himalayan kitten that looked quite promising. This was GC NewDestiny's Something Wonderful my first nice show cat. Wonder did great at the shows and was such a pleasure to show that I was hocked on Himalayans...

Cat show photo of New Destiny's Something In The StarsOver the years I have noticed several breeders with poor focus. They want to produce show quality chocolates but they become what I call "color blind" to chocolate. I personally feel that there are not 2 chocolates in the world nice enough to be breed together...

If you want to produce show quality chocolates don't breed two chocolates together. You will produce chocolate kittens but the odds are stacked against you in producing a top show cat. If you have a visual breed it to the best show cat you can afford or get your hands on and produce show quality carriers. Then take the carriers and breed them back to visual or other type carriers. This does 2 things for your breeding program. One it opens up your gene pool, two it adds type to your lines. I wanted chocolate very badly but I did my breeding this way and my first chocolate point became a Grand Champion. It took several years but I did it and did it well. Stay focused but don't become "color blind" to chocolate...Chocolate Point - GC, RW New Destiny's Something In The Stars

If you lose the chocolate you can always add it back. I would much rather produce a top show kitten from healthy lines that was a chocolate carrier than produce a poor quality visual that would be embarrassing to bring into the show hall.

If there is anything I want New Destiny Himalayans to be know for it's for the healthy, beautiful and sweet cats I produce and show. OH and by the way they have excellent chocolates and chocolate carriers too... I want my cats to appeal to all breeders not just to breeders wanting chocolate.

Star at the cat show taking 3rd Best KittenNew Destiny has produced several CFA Grand Champions and one Regional Winner.. GC NewDestiny's Something To Remember is my first Grand Champion Chocolate Point. He was also CFA's Best Of Color in 1998. I am now showing his daughter NewDestiny's Something In The Stars, a Chocolate point female born 10-15-01. She has made several finals as a kitten. We plan on running her for a Regional Win in the new show season, Lord willing... She has excellent type, great top head, bone, fantastic blue eyes, weight, and COAT. Several judges have had to look at their book twice to make sure that this wonderful kitten is a "Chocolate"... She becomes an adult in mid June so keep an eye out for us on our journey for a RW.
